Thelma Lorene Holland Davis, aged 91, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on August 29, 1933, in Gruene, Texas, she was the beloved daughter of George and Katie Mae Holland. Raised in New Braunfels, she was the eldest survivor of ten siblings and was baptized at Live Oak Baptist Church.
Lorene was a dedicated educator, earning her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Huston-Tillotson University. She had a distinguished career as an elementary school teacher with Austin ISD, retiring from Barbara Jordan Elementary. Her passion for teaching extended to her role as a Dorm Mother at the Texas School for the Blind and Deaf.
In 1962, she married the late Reverend O.D. Davis and served as First Lady of Macedonia Baptist Church in Temple, Texas, and Greater Union Baptist Church in Austin. Together, they had one daughter, Akaimi.
Lorene was a woman of many talents, including gardening, sewing, and playing the piano. She was known for her delicious holiday desserts and cherished summers spent fishing with her family in Corpus Christi.
Her legacy is carried on by her daughter Akaimi W. Davis, grandchildren Terence, Tyran, and Jasmyne, and great-grandchildren Terence, Zion, Zendaya, and Kaylanii. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, and several siblings, including her sister Georgia M. Holland.
Lorene will be remembered for her big smile, loving personality, and sassy wit. She touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
