Shirley Ann (Green) Sweet was born at home in San Antonio, Texas on July 7,1935 to her loving parents, Lee Roy and Annabelle (Magee) Green. Shirley was their only child. Her great grandfather, John F. Green was a Texas Ranger who lived south of Zion Lutheran Church in Helotes, Texas.  Shirley grew up in San Antonio, Texas where she was baptized, confirmed and a member of Saint Johns Lutheran Church, attended Brackenridge High School, played on the tennis team, modeled for Joskes Department Store (now River Center Mall), and was the Queen of the 1956 San Antonio Hermann Sons Carnival, and worked as a telephone operator at the Alamo Iron Works (now the site of the Alamodome).

In 1958, Shirley helped at a USO dance at Randolph Airforce Base and met the man of her dreams, Gerald (Jerry) Eugene Sweet an officer in the United States Air Force. After dating 3 months, they were married at the Randolph Air Force Base Chapel, and moved to Topeka, Kansas where Jerry was stationed. In April of 1959 their first son, Gerald Lee Sweet was born. They moved several times in the Air Force and in January 25, 1962 their second son Daniel Eric Sweet was born at Maxwell Airforce Base in Montgomery Alabama. They moved again to California and then to Bergstrom Air Force Base (Now Austin International Airport). In 1966, the family moved to Ellsworth Air Force Base close to Rapid City, South Dakota. While at Ellsworth AFB Shirley was a leader in the Officers Wives Club and loved to go antique hunting. Shirley raised her two sons during the Viet Nam War and became the guardian for her cousin Pat Jay's daughter Jeannette Jay and loved her as her own daughter (Jeannette resides today in San Antonio, Texas). For several years, Shirley was the activities director at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in New Underwood, South Dakota.

Shirley and Jerry, and their two Sons moved back to San Antonio in 1976 after Jerry retired as a Major, from 20 years of service in the United States Air Force.  Shirley became the Head Secretary of the Engineering Department at Trinity University and was also responsible for giving tours of the Solar Energy System on top of the Gymnasium. After leaving Trinity, Shirley was the main secretary for Alves Christian Outreach which was later called Intercessors International. All the while, Shirley was an active member of the Aglow International and became the president of the San Antonio Day Aglow Chapter, and later served on the South Texas Area Regional Aglow Board. Shirley helped her husband Jerry build their beautiful home in Bulverde in 1980.  Shirley and Jerry Moved again in 2011 to Kingsland Texas to live with their son Lee and his wife Peggy Sweet.

Shirley Ann (Green) Sweet was a resident in 2019 at Kingsland Hills Nursing Home, Kingsland Texas. Survived the Covid Lockdown and moved in the spring of 2022 to the Brixton Nursing Home and Rehab Center at Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Shirley and her husband Jerry celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary together at the Brixton. While at the Brixton Shirley was president of the residents council and was loved by the residents, the administration, the nursing staff, and all the kitchen staff and the house cleaning department. Shirley was also loved by the Altus Hospice nurses, CNAs, chaplain, and staff.  Shirley Loved everyone at the Brixton and everyone with Altus.  Shirley loved to visit with anyone who came to her room. During these visits she would share her faith, give encouragement, and pray for anyone in need.

Shirley loved God, Family, and Country.  She loved with all her heart her Lord and Savior: Jesus Christ. Shirley also loved her family and they lovingly called her Mom or Mema. She loved also to bake family meals for all the holidays and birthdays, and to decorate for all the holidays and seasons. As our Mom/Mema she would say "I LOVE YOU MORE" when ending a phone call or when we said I love you to her. Shirley loved the United States of America, and was very patriotic especially on the 4th of July, and loved to sing God Bless America.
