Roy Hicks was born to parents Rev. Willie P. Hicks, Sr., and Pearl Sanders Hicks, known to many as Pearlie Mae. He graduated from Solomon M. Coles High School, he played Basketball, Football, and became an all around athlete in Track and Field. He attended College at Texas State University in Houston, Texas. While attending both High School and College, Roy broke many records and made many records in Sprints, High Hurdles, High Jumps, and Relays and while at Texas Southern University his winning accomplishments took him overseas to participate in Tokyo International Track and Field Events.

Roy Hicks served his tour in the Army from 1964 with an honorable discharge in 1968.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Willie P. Hicks and Pearl Hicks (Pearlie Mae); brothers, Willie P. Hicks Jr., James Harrington Hicks, Edwards Hicks; and Lee Otis Hicks; sister, Mary Hicks Kornegay; and wife Anise Hicks.

Roy leaves to cherish, his sons Minister Michael Smith, Roy Jr. (Cynthia), Paul Hicks (Janet); sister Sheila Hicks; aunt Shirley Jean Hicks; grandchildren Davontay Smith, Michael Smith Jr., Oceanna Smith, Brianna Smith, Stefon Fountain, Brittney Hicks, Amanda Hicks, James Hicks, Benjamin Hicks, Jessica Beal, Denise Hicks, and Jennifer Hicks, special grandson Adrian Belt; 27 great-grandchildren; many Family and Friends. I
