It is with deep sorrow and profound respect that we announce the passing of Rolando E. Vera Sr., affectionately known to many as "Big Daddy," who departed this life on May 4, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on February 3, 1942, in Weslaco, Rolando’s journey was marked by unwavering dedication, a vibrant spirit, and an enduring love for his family.

Rolando’s early years were defined by selflessness and grit. He made the courageous decision to leave school to become a migrant worker, providing crucial financial support for his family during challenging times. His hard work laid the foundation for a lifetime of commitment and perseverance. For more than twenty years, he served the Dallas school district with dedication and pride, pouring his heart into his career and the people he served.

Despite the demands of life, Rolando never lost his passion for joy and celebration. He was known for his love of dancing, always stepping onto the floor with the same energy and enthusiasm that defined his approach to life. A devoted fan of The Dallas Cowboys, he proudly wore his cowboy hat and boots—a signature look he embraced with a playful declaration that he had to "look good for the ladies." This exuberance and charm left an indelible impression on all who knew him.

Family was Rolando’s greatest accomplishment and pride. He loved and cherished his children—Roland Vera Jr., Rene Vera, and Annette Rodriguez—and found immeasurable joy in his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His warmth and guidance extended to his siblings Salome Ramiro Vera (Esmeralda), Jose Vera, Anna Rodriguez (Tony), Rosalinda Vera Duran (the late Amador), and Irma Vera Majors (Edwin), who survive him alongside legions of nieces and nephews. Together, they carry forward his legacy of love and resilience.

Rolando’s life was also shaped by memories of those who preceded him in rest. He was the beloved son of Salome and Carmen Vera and brother to Rene, Jose, Alicia Calvillo, Ricardo, and Rogelio Vera. Their memory remains intertwined with his, a testament to the deep family bonds he honored throughout his life.

The warmth of Rolando’s personality was often summed up humorously by the fact that all of his exes lived in Texas—an affectionate nod to the spirited and colorful man he was.

Friends, family, and all who loved Rolando will gather in remembrance and tribute at Saxet Funeral Home, located at 4001 Leopard St, Corpus Christi, TX 78408. Visitation will be held on May 8, 2026, starting at 3:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m., concluding by 7:00 p.m. These moments will offer an opportunity to celebrate "Big Daddy"—to share stories, express gratitude, and honor a life well-lived.

Rolando E. Vera Sr.'s legacy is one of enduring strength, heartfelt joy, and boundless generosity. Though he has left this world, his spirit continues to dance in the hearts of those who knew him, forever wearing his cowboy hat and boots with pride. His story is one of love, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to family—an inspiration that will resonate across generations. Rest peacefully, dear Big Daddy; your journey on earth may have concluded, but your memory and the light you shared will shine on endlessly.
