In Loving Memory of Marcelino C. Vaca

April 28, 1957 – June 17, 2026

Marcelino C. Vaca, 69, entered into the presence of the Lord on June 17, 2026, while visiting Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. Though his passing was unexpected, his family finds comfort in knowing that he lived a full and meaningful life rooted in faith, hard work, family, and gratitude.

Marcelino was born on April 28, 1957, in Rancho La Galera, Cuerámaro, Guanajuato, Mexico. At the age of 16, he came to the United States in search of greater opportunities and a better future. Through determination, perseverance, and an unwavering work ethic, he built a life that reflected the American dream.

At the age of 19, Marcelino met the love of his life, Diana L. Villarreal. The two were married on June 4, 1976, and together welcomed two children, Marco Antonio Vaca and Diana Lynn Vaca. Tragically, Diana passed away just six weeks after the birth of their daughter, leaving Marcelino to navigate an unimaginable loss at a young age.

Later in life, Marcelino remarried and was blessed with three additional children: Mary Jane Vaca, Isaac Vaca, and Cristina Vaca.

A master carpenter by trade and passion, Marcelino possessed a remarkable talent for building and fixing just about anything. His skills and dedication eventually led him to a career with the City of Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department, where he faithfully served for 26 years before retiring in January 2018.

Retirement suited Marcelino well. He enjoyed traveling throughout Mexico, spending time with family and friends, and living life on his own terms. He often returned from his travels with a smile and his familiar phrase, “Gracias a Dios,” a reflection of the faith that guided his life. He was a man who truly enjoyed life and often reminded those around him, “I enjoy myself.”

Marcelino will be remembered for his strength, independence, humor, quick one-liners, and the pride he took in his family and his work. There seemed to be nothing he could not do. More importantly, he leaves behind a legacy of resilience, faith, and love.

He is survived by his children: Marco Antonio Vaca; Diana Lynn Puente (Mike Puente); Mary Jane Vaca (Jason Gonzalez); Isaac Vaca; and Cristina Vaca.

He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Sara Vaca, Andrew Puente, Isayla Vaca, Isabela Vaca, Audrey Puente, and Jacob Vaca; and his great-grandson, Ezekiel Marcelo Vaca.

Marcelino is further survived by numerous brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives he touched throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diana Lamar Vaca; his parents, San Juana Castillo Ponce and Jose Marcelino Vaca Navarro; his brother, Gilberto Vaca Castillo; and his sister, Socorro Vaca Castillo.

Having Marcelino as a father, grandfather, brother, and friend was one of life's greatest blessings. He came to this country as a young man with a dream and built a beautiful life through hard work, faith, and perseverance. While his family mourns his absence, they rejoice in knowing that his name was written in the Book of Life and that he is now at peace with the Lord.
