January 2, 1946 – January 28, 2025
Jerry Haywood, born on January 2, 1946, in Corpus Christi, Texas, entered eternity on January 28, 2025. A graduate of West Oso High School in 1964, Jerry became a respected PR person known for his impeccable memory and creativity, often likened to MacGyver. He had a passion for Western movies, particularly 'Gunsmoke', and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Jerry was also known for his green thumb, cultivating a variety of fruits and vegetables in his garden.
His faith was a cornerstone of his life, having been baptized in January 1995 at the Apostolic Church of the Living God by Founder and Pastor Doctor William Lanehart IV. In 2001, Jerry and his wife were ordained as Deacon and Deaconess by Bishop David Sanders of The Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. He remained a devoted member of the Church of the Living GOD throughout his life.
Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Haywood, his wife Norvella Haywood, brothers Charles and Larry Haywood, sisters Josephine Hubbard and Annie Mae Rogers, and extended family member Craig Turner. He leaves behind his wife Dorothy Haywood, son Joe (Marquice) Haywood, Evelyn Turner, Clarence Turner, sisters Louise Earl, Blanch Caldwell, Vernell Moore, Willie Wharton AKA LeLe, Linda Kay Love, brothers Burnis Haywood, Travis Haywood, David Haywood, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish his memory.
A viewing will be held at Saxet Funeral Home on Friday, February 7th from 3-6. A church service will be held on February 8th at Brooks Worship Center, 2101 N. Port, at 11:00 am, followed by a burial at Memory Gardens at 1 pm.
