Gloria Duncan Swantner passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, ending a life beautifully and purposefully lived. She was 94 years old.

Gloria was born in Moore, Frio County, TX. on October 21, 1931, to Dorothy Duncan and Frank Cruz Duncan Jr., into a devout Catholic family. She was involved in her Catholic faith her whole life and volunteered for Catholic Charities for many years; and served the Corpus Christi Diocese Bishops and Priests by arranging flowers for their meetings and social occasions. She served on the governing board of the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department for many years and was instrumental in having Swantner Park on Ocean Drive named after her father-in-law, George Robert Swantner.

Gloria loved "all things" flowers and plants. Her love of flowers and plants was evidenced by her exquisite talent for growing plants and arranging flowers. As a lifetime member of Ocean Drive Garden Club, she garnered every blue ribbon and award in the annual Flower Show and always participated in the local Lola Forrester Flower Show held at Memorial Coliseum. Gloria was also a certified flower show judge both locally and internationally.

Gloria originally lived on King Street in Corpus Christi, across the street from a public tennis court, and played tennis as a child, on into high school, and into early adulthood. It was always with a fond memory that she reminisced aloud about her tennis days, and how playing tennis kept her healthy throughout the years.

Gloria will be remembered for her love of family, friends and her love of The Lord, her generosity, her jubilant love of watching her children play sports, gardening, beachcombing, flower arranging, cooking, playing tennis, flower show judging, traveling, spending time in the Texas Hill Country, community volunteerism, and her strong will.

She was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy Duncan and Frank Duncan Jr.; and John Richard (Dick) Swantner, the father of her children; and her two sons Rick and Matthew Francis.

Gloria is survived by four of her six children, Emily Swantner (George Haddad) of Santa Fe, NM, David Swantner of Austin, TX, and Jamin Swantner (Jane) of Bellville, TX, and Michael Swantner (Susan) of Corpus Christi, TX; 11 grandchildren; John Richard Swantner III (Kristin), Christopher George Swantner, Nathan J. Boucher (Emily), Jessica Boucher Sparkman, Alissa Leigh Swantner, James Thomas Swantner, John Jamin Swantner, Jenna Swantner, Matthew Justus Swantner (Bess), Emily Swantner Cunningham (Blake), Daniel Joseph Swantner (Sarah); and 14 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 6th, at 1pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Corpus Christi, TX, immediately followed by a reception in the St. Pius Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in memory of Gloria Swantner to the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund, c/o Michael Swantner, P.O. Box 870, Corpus Christi, TX., 78403; or to a charity of your choice.
