Obituary

On April 13, 2025, our beloved Dilia B. Cortinas was glorified into eternal life as she made her heavenly presence before our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Born on May 19, 1933, to parents Luis and Dolores Beltran, she spent a majority of her childhood in Culiacán, Mexico. In her teenage years, she moved to Corpus Christi, TX, to live with her aunt and uncle and began her journey of achieving the American dream. In her early 20s, she enrolled in beauty school to learn how to become a hairdresser. While attending classes, she met and fell in love with Gilbert M. Cortinas. Dilia and Gilbert married and established their roots in Gregory, Texas.

Starting a family and looking to pave their way in life, Dilia and her husband, Gilbert, took a leap of faith and blazed an entrepreneurial path for themselves. For over 40 years, Dilia and Gilbert owned and operated Gilbert's Beauty Salon, one of the first hair and beauty salons in Portland, Texas. Together, they proved to their six children that faith, family, and hard work are essential to living a fulfilled life.

As if raising six children and working full-time as a business owner weren't enough, Dilia stayed extremely active with various homemaking responsibilities and personal hobbies. After long days of work, she would still find it in herself to make some of the greatest home-cooked meals anyone could ever imagine enjoying. In addition to being a great cook, she cultivated and maintained some of the most beautiful plants and flower beds around. Plants and long walks brought her happiness, but her family was her pride and joy. Large family dinners and gatherings were always so memorable as she welcomed and fed all who came over.

Throughout her life, Dilia took great pride in seeing her children go on to love Jesus, raise families, and live blessed lives. All having many great attributes she instilled in them, especially hard work. Somehow she always knew exactly what each of her children needed, and she always provided. She was a loving mother to her children and "Mom" enough for anyone who needed a motherly figure in life.

As a testament to her unconditional love towards her family, Dilia once again embraced with open arms another generation of Cortinas boys into her home later in life. Unlike most people in retirement years, Dilia helped finish raising two grandsons, Gilbert III and Christopher, whom she guided and blessed with her motherly love. She would often tell them that she had a renewed purpose in life, which was to see them and all her other children and grandchildren go on to love God and live successful lives.

Dilia is preceded in eternal glorification by her parents, Luis and Dolores Beltran, and by her husband, Gilbert M. Cortinas. Her legacy continues to live on through her beloved children, including her one daughter, Dolores, and her five sons and their wives, Gilbert Jr. (Margarita), Luis (Cynthia), Rene (MaryAnn), Carlos (Susan), and David (Annette). Also her grandchildren, Erica, Gilbert III, Josef, Selina, Alex, Karisa, Leticia, Christopher, Emily, Amanda, Daniel, and Seth, along with numerous great-grandchildren, her siblings, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Her family is especially grateful for her care providers, Diana Abrego, Ana Robles, and Nancy Gaitan, who humbly provided the most loving care for Dilia in her final years.

All who were blessed to have known her can affirm she exemplified what it means to walk in the light of Jesus, full of love and guided by God's Spirit. We can rest assured knowing she was well received into the arms of Jesus, hearing those faithful words we all long to hear one day, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
